Founded in 1982 and modernized in 2012, Vaziani Winery is a hallmark of Georgian winemaking excellence. Situated in the Kakheti region, the winery combines centuries-old traditions with modern technology to produce premium wines that capture the authentic flavors of Georgia.

A Legacy of Quality and Tradition

Vaziani’s story begins with the historic Telavi Winery No.1, and its evolution reflects Georgia’s deep-rooted wine culture. In the post-Soviet era, the winery focused on producing high-quality gift bottlings that preserved the reputation of Georgia’s classic wine brands. Today, Vaziani continues this tradition while embracing modern production standards, including:

  • ISO22000-2015 compliance for food safety and quality

  • Modern Italian equipment for precise winemaking

  • Stainless steel reservoirs to ensure purity and consistency

Makashvili Wine Cellar and Qvevri Heritage

Vaziani is proud to operate the Makashvili Wine Cellar, whose origins trace back to the 15th-century Makashvili estate. This cellar is a center for traditional Qvevri winemaking, using clay vessels buried underground—a method practiced in Georgia for over 8,000 years.

  • Over 120-year-old Qvevri vessels were discovered during the 2012 reconstruction

  • Wines are fermented with grapes and skins in Qvevris for months, producing amber and red wines with deep, complex flavors

  • Limited quantities are produced, emphasizing quality over mass production

The Qvevri method, recognized by UNESCO as cultural heritage, gives Vaziani wines their unique aroma, rich texture, and natural balance.

Vineyards and Grape Varieties

Vaziani’s vineyards are located in Gremi and Eniseli in the Kindzmarauli Microzone of Kakheti. Grapes are harvested by hand at peak ripeness from late September to early October, ensuring optimal flavor concentration.

Key grape varieties include:

  • Saperavi and Rkatsiteli – the backbone of Georgian wine

  • Kisi, Khikhvi, Krakhuna, Tsitska, Usakhelouri, Chardonnay, Kakhetian Mtsvane – rare and indigenous varieties

  • Grapes undergo a careful selection and gentle pressing process to maintain integrity

  • Saperavi Oak – Aged for richness with notes of spice and vanilla
