At Corus Imports, we’re proud to bring one of the most distinctive and ancient wine styles to the U.S. market: Georgian orange wine, also known as amber wine. These remarkable wines are made using traditional techniques and native grape varieties—resulting in bold, complex expressions that are as natural as they are unique.

Recognized by UNESCO: The Qvevri Method

Georgia’s ancient qvevri winemaking technique is at the heart of our amber wine collection. The process—where grapes are fermented and aged in large clay vessels buried underground—has been recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This method promotes natural fermentation, temperature stability, and zero chemical interference. The result? Rich, structured wines with depth and authenticity—made without additives or modern processing.

Indigenous Grapes and Authentic Flavors

Georgia is home to over 500 indigenous grape varieties, more than nearly any other country in the world. One of the most important for amber wine production is Rkatsiteli—a versatile white grape that develops incredible texture and flavor when fermented with its skins. Expect notes of dried apricot, citrus peel, walnut, and spice—aromas that evolve beautifully in qvevri-aged wines.

🧠 Fun Fact: The name “Rkatsiteli” roughly translates to “red stem,” referencing the grape’s reddish stalks—even though it produces white or amber wine!

Naturally Made, Minimally Intervened

The majority of Georgian orange wines are made with minimal intervention. That means:

  • No commercial yeasts (wild fermentation only)

  • Little to no filtration

  • Very limited or no added sulfites

This process aligns perfectly with today’s growing demand for natural and organic wine, making Georgian amber wines a standout for wine lists and shelves alike.
